Wessex Water are planning major water-main works early in 2018 along Preston Road (between the Preston Village Hall and the Sutton Road junction) and Sutton Road.

Wessex Water are writing to all affected households, and have arranged a drop-in session at the Scutt Hall on the evening of 14th December, 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., where people will be able to get further information.

The work in Preston Road will start on 2nd January 2018, and complete on 2nd February. The road will be open throughout, but there will be one-way flow controlled by traffic lights for much of the time, so delays must be expected.

Work in Sutton Road will follow, with the whole project ending by 2nd March. Sutton Road will be kept open EXCEPT for two periods of partial overnight closure, as follows:

  • 5th to 11th February, at the southern end of Sutton Road between Verlands Road and the Preston Road junction;
  • 12th to 16th February, at the Puddledock Lane junction.

These closures will be overnight, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning.

The water supply will be maintained most of the time, and the water should be entirely up to its usual safety standards. There may be some short periods when the water supply is disrupted, but Wessex Water will give 48 hours' notice to affected households if this is necessary.
