Village tidy-up
Saturday 24 March 2012, -

(Volunteers would be welcomed to help us get the village looking clean and tidy, ready for an important summer. 10.30 on Saturday morning, for litter clearance. We have borrowed sacks, gloves and picker-uppers from the Council. 2.00 on Sunday afternoon, to clear ivy, brambles and weeds. Please bring secateurs and wheelbarrows. Meet at top end of the pond ("Springhead Car Park").)

A very big thank-you

The village has been transformed, thanks to the magnificent efforts of a team of 25 villagers, who worked so hard on both Saturday and Sunday. We carried out the 'litter-pick' so that the village and its immediate surrounds are clear of cans, plastic bottles, and the like. But this was just a minor part of what was achieved. The main effort was around the village pond and along the stream, where huge quantities of ivy and brambles have been removed from trees and walls, the trees around the pond have been trimmed so they don't interfere so much with views along and across the pond (more to come here, but a great start), the stream banks have been cleared of tall weeds, and all the roads and paved areas have been cleared of earth and thoroughly swept. A terrific effort - and a very big thank-you to all the helpers. We are determined that we will make a similar effort once a year - much less effort than the huge amount of work that was needed after a long gap since the previous cleanup.

Some photos showing what was achieved:

And here are photos of some of the "usual suspects" busy working on tidying the area around the pond:
