The Sutton Poyntz Society History Group runs one or two village history events per year, usually one meeting for members of the Group to discuss their work within the Group, plus a more formal "History Evening" with invited and/or local speakers. Here is a list of events that the History Group has run or participated in - copies of presentations by Group members will be available here:

  • July 2009 - a village walk with a history theme, organised with the Dorset AONB Ridgeway Heritage Project team;
  • 24 February 2010 - 1st History Evening, with talks by Peter Sheaves on the development of the village through its buildings, by Bill Egerton on the families who have owned Sutton Poyntz between AD900 and 1925, and by Sarah Harbige of the Dorset AONB on their Ridgeway Heritage Project;

Membership of the History Group is free, and open to anyone with an interest in Sutton Poyntz village history.

We are members of the Dorset History Network; this also runs a programme of events which are open to our members. Finally, we seek to coordinate any local history research being done by our members.
