Wessex Water have a museum in the village dedicated to the water industry - the reason why Sutton Poyntz exists. Water bubbles out of the ground and what is not used to supply Weymouth, some 2500000 gallons a day, forms the river Jordan. Access is by appointment, phone 01305 832634 for details.

The village is surrounded by land designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty over which there are numerous footpaths. There are many sources of information for this area but a good place to start is the AONB pages on the South Dorset Ridgeway.

The village is also associated with Thomas Hardy as it is thought to be the setting for one of his books. Thomas Hardy lived and worked for most of his life in Dorset and wrote lovingly about its countryside. Visit the Hardy Society's website.
