To make a Top Menu visible, you first need to create a Module for the menu. The menu is just a hierarchical list of page links; the Module is a displayable Joomla entity, which associates the menu with a location on the page. This can only be done by a Site Administrator:

  • Go to the Module Manager via the Extensions drop-down menu;
  • Click New;
  • Select Menu as the Module Type.
  • A form will be displayed. In the Module tab of the form:
    • Give the module a Title (this can for convenience be the same as the menu name);
    • Set Show Title to Hide;
    • In the Position drop-down menu, select the Spatomic location top-menu;
    • Leave Status and Access as published and public respectively;
    • The setting for Ordering does not seem to matter.
    • In Select Menu, find and select the menu you want this module to display;
    • Set Show sub-menu items to Yes;
    • Set Start Level to 1 and End Level to 2;
  • In the Advanced tab of the form:
    • Set Module class suffix to "_topmenu";
  • At this stage, you can go to the Menu Assignment tab of the form in order to specify which pages this Top Menu is to be displayed on. See the guidance on how to have a Top Menu displayed after clicking a menu link;
  • Now click Save & Close.
