logo24 October 2023 - Neighbourhood Plan

The Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan has reached the stage of formal public consultation, and will commence on Friday 27th October with responses required by Friday 8th December. This "Regulation 14" consultation is done before the Neighbourhood Plan (modified if necessary in the light of the consultation responses) is submitted for Inspection. If approved by the Inspector, the Plan then goes to referendum, when all the people in the Weymouth Town Council area can vote on whether to adopt the Plan.

Copies of the Neighbourhood Plan, along with other relevant documents, are available at https://www.weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan/  If people remember, there is a Sutton Poyntz Neighbourhood Plan. This will be replaced by Weymouth's Neighbourhood Plan, if it is adopted, but it was Weymouth Town Council's intention that the policies in our previous Neighbourhood Plan should be "included and respected" in the new Neighbourhood Plan, and the Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan includes an appendix explaining how this is done. Our Neighbourhood Plan is available at https://suttonpoyntz.org.uk/index.php/our-village/environment/planning?start=2

People should perhaps be made aware that at the Town Council meeting on the 18th October, all three Councillors representing Preston and Sutton Poyntz voted against the Neighbourhood Plan going forward to consultation. We are sure our local Town Councillors would be happy to provide their reasons, if asked.

[Thanks to Colin Marsh for monitoring the evolution of the Plan(s) for us.]
