12 October 2024 - Fun in the mud
The intention was just to clear up the pond after several mild months and a lot of growth. Well a couple of dozen volunteers donned their waders (at one extreme) or their shorts and tee-shirts (at the other) and spent this morning returning the pond to something a bit more manageable. It was a great turn-out, and it was especially good to see quite a few new-ish residents who'd not been much involved before. Our local councillors also came along and rolled up their sleeves!
The ducks and moorhens had loved the thick reedbeds and floating weed - but today the volunteers loved getting right in there and enjoying the mud. I'm only including one picture as an example, but a lot of people did a lot of hard work. The pond's going to need a couple of days to recover but it will be all the better for it. Many thanks also go out to The Springhead for the welcome bacon rolls and hot drinks they generously provided. Truly a communal effort that shows what lovely people live in our village.
If you missed out on this opportunity to play in the mud, look out for the 2025 cleanup!
