4 April 2016 - SP Soc AGM and Beacon lighting
Society AGM
A reminder that the AGM of the Sutton Poyntz Society will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13 April in the Mission Hall. Business will include annual reports from amongst others, our Chairman Mike Blee and Treasurer John Sutherland and the election of the committee for the coming year. New members are needed for this, especially as John is standing down. Additional agenda items are the Village Neighbourhood Plan and amendments to the Society constitution. The latter are available on the web site and at the meeting. This is a vital topic, so please make every effort to attend if you wish to find out what is planned and to have your say.
Lighting the beacon
Jez Cunningham suggested that as many places were intending to light their beacon on Thursday 21 April to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday, Sutton Poyntz should join in. The idea was received with enthusiasm, so mark the evening in your diary.
With military precision the attendees will be divided into Assault, Catering and Support Platoons.
The Assault Platoon will tackle the steep path, and wheelbarrow firewood up the hill, plus newspaper and kindling, windproof matches, flamethrowers, asbestos gloves, small stepladder, and a liberal amount of Napalm.
The Catering Platoon will manage the Prosecco, bottle-opener, glasses, napkins, union jacks, and camping light.
The Support Platoon, for those who do not wish to hike up to the beacon, will congregate at the Millennium Walk plaque and provide loud cheers and (hopefully) warm applause.
Volunteers for the Assault Platoon are ordered to contact Jez.
The approximate timings are :
1930 Light fire;
1945 Re-light fire; repeat as necessary;
2000 Serve Prosecco (3 bottles remain from those provided by the Springhead);
2002 Sing God Save The Queen (synchronised via mobile phone between the platoons?);
2005 The Loyal Toast;
2030 Retire to the Pub;
