23 February 2020 - Coffee Morning and French Supper
Dear all,
The next Coffee Morning of the Winter season will be held on Friday, 6 March, in the Mission Hall between 10.30 and 12.00 at the usual cost of £3/person. This time, in addition to the delicious refreshments and informative, interesting and humorous conversation, Peter Jones says that the SP Neighbourhood Police Team will be in attendance, so do drop in and have a chat with them - unless, of course, you are on the run, in which case I suggest staying at home with the curtains drawn. It will be a chance to put a face to a name of those who, in difficult circumstances, look after our safety, and you can raise any concerns or, indeed, any praise you might have to pass on.
I was at the Wales vs France rugby match yesterday, so I will be wearing a black armband at the French Supper Night on Saturday. Maureen the Mill asks that anyone who has booked for this event who would prefer the vegetarian option please let her know as soon as possible (01305 835533) so she knows in advance how many to provide.
Regards
Chris
19 February 2020 - Bake the Balfey way
Dear all,
Sutton Poyntz own Master Baker, Chris Balfe, will once again be organising free classes instilling the basics of baking in six easy lessons, starting on Tuesday 21 April in the Mission Hall. As a complete novice I turned up to his last set of lessons with some trepidation, as I knew that my ability to make a reasonable bacon butty would not be a great help. In the event I need not have worried. Plenty of explanation, hands on practice, insider tips and encouragement from the other trainee bakers (some experts in sheep’s clothing) made the experience very enjoyable and great fun. And there are lots of lovely smells and tastings too! So if you would like to learn how to produce a delicious loaf, or even something more exotic, go along to the Mission Hall at 1pm on Tuesday 21 April. The lessons end at 4pm and I promise you that your efforts will be worthwhile. If you would like to know more contact Balfey the Baker on 07969781145 or at

14 February 2020 - Result of Village Plan Referendum
Dear all,
There was a large turnout for the Sutton Poyntz Neighbourhood Plan Referendum yesterday. In total 47.4% of those eligible voted – that’s 189 people - and of these 81% voted yes to the question “Do you want Dorset Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Sutton Poyntz to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”
Nick Cardell, a Senior Planning Officer at Dorset Council, says that the Plan will now be used in full to determine planning applications in the Sutton Poyntz area.
Peter Dye believes that the high level of interest in the Plan is a reflection of the quality of its presentation, and that all those who participated in the process of creating the plan, answering surveys, attending (sometimes long) meetings, writing minutes, drafting policies or simply offering comments and suggestions, are to be congratulated on the professional result they achieved..
Anyone who would like a copy of the village Place Appraisal (as a memento, or simply to weigh down their coffee table – his words, not mine I hasten to add) Peter hopes to have hard copies available for purchase at the March Coffee Morning, at, I believe, a cost of £15.

12 February 2020 - Mission Hall French themed evening supper
Bonjour mes amis,
O la la, c’est un soir Francais a la Mission Hall …… sorry, I had forgotten that not all of you are as fluent in the same 29 languages as wot I is, so I’ll translate.
I have it on good authority – from Maureen, no less, and it doesn’t come any gooder than that – there will be a French themed Supper night in the Mission Hall on Saturday, 29 February starting at 7pm (local time).
The menu is Coq au vin, baby potatoes and mixed vegetables, followed by French Apple /Almond tart, with cream, cheese and coffee/tea (there will also be a vegetarian option available). The cost is only £12/head (14.27 euros at today’s exchange rate) and you are welcome to bring your own liquid refreshment, be that a fine French wine, real ale or a bottle of finest Sutton Poyntz water.
Give Maureen a ring on 01305 835533 to book your tickets, which are selling fast.
I will be going, but don’t let that put you off, so see you on Saturday 29 February.
Au revoir
Christophe
11 February 2020 - SP Neighbourhood Plan Referendum
Dear all,
A reminder that the referendum on the Sutton Poyntz Neighbourhood Plan will be held this coming Thursday, 13 February, in the Mission Hall between 7 am and 10 pm. Basically those within the neighbourhood area and on the electoral register can to vote yes or no on the question
“Do you want Dorset Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Sutton Poyntz to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”

Full details are available on the SP Website at http://suttonpoyntz.org.uk/neighbourhood/referendum on the Council website https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/sutton-poyntz-neighbourhood-plan or at South Walks House, Dorchester Library and Littlemoor Library.

3 February 2020 - Success of Charity Coffee morning
Dear all,
Recently I went away for a walking weekend so unfortunately missed the Cancer Research UK Coffee Morning in the Mission Hall. But I must have been the only one that did because Hilary tells me that it was packed out and that you helped to raise over £630 - a huge increase on last year - for much needed research. She would like to thank all those who came along and all those who helped with cakes, in the kitchen and with raffle prizes. She went on to say that she is very grateful to everyone, and happy to live among such generous people. I also think that we owe her a vote of thanks for her sterling organisation which will benefit so many people.
Best regards
Chris
23 January 2020 - Chatty Crafty Group
Dear all,
I’m sure you don’t need reminding, but just in case, the next in the regular series of Chatty Craft Group meetings is this coming Monday 27 January in the Mission Hall between 10am and noon. This is a chance to meet for a chat and refreshments, make new friends, perhaps learn a new hobby, watch others 'at work'. or, with many very talented people in the village with a range of different skills, pass on your expertise to someone else. It's only £2 per session and who knows, with what you learn you could be the next winner of The Great British Sewing Bee – but probably not Strictly Come Dancing. Do drop in this Monday or any of those following; they will be very pleased to see you and make you feel very much at home.
Regards
Chris
20 January 2020 - Charity Coffee Morning on Friday
Dear all,
A reminder about the Cancer Research UK Coffee Morning being held this coming Friday, 24 January, between 10 am and noon in the Mission Hall. It costs £3 a person for your coffee and cake, and there will be a chance to enter a raffle to further swell the funds. At last year’s event £500 was raised to help research into treatment for this awful disease, and it is hoped to better that figure in this year. So make sure you get along to enjoy the refreshments, conversation and company to the benefit of a great cause. Hilary Davidson is the person to contact if you have any queries. Her number is 07707 830846, not the one I gave last time.
Best regards
Chris
