logo 29 October 2023 - Victorian Street Fayre 2024 in danger of not going ahead

Dear Sutton Poyntz Village

The open meeting held on Friday 27th October to discuss the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre unfortunately did not result in a committee to run this event in 2024.

Therefore if you want to help and run a committee please e-mail David Langridge This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before the end of Friday 10th November.

logo28 October 2023 - Mission Hall News - Music and Ploughman's

An entertaining evening of music and song plus a scrumptious ploughman’s supper all for £10!
Being held on the 17th November in the Mission Hall, the Mission Hall Trust Fundraisers invite you to join us at 7.30pm for an evening of music provided by a variety of musicians coming from near and far to entertain us. We originally thought this would be an 'open mic night' but this plan changed and we now have a wonderful line-up of selected artists who have generously agreed to play for us.
The evening, which will be compèred by our very own impresario Rick Potter, will include in the line-up some familiar professional artists including Ken Watkins, Rob Ryan and David Gordon plus Damaris Fowler, Hedley Stone, Bob Willows and from further afield, Kusameh Omala and Lloyd Davis.
So come along and relax, bring your own drinks and immerse yourselves in an evening of lovely music and a great supper in a convivial atmosphere.
Tickets are available from Bill Egerton 01305 833728 or Maureen Morris 01305 835533.

It's coming to that time of year again when we decide on whether a Street Fayre will take place next year 2024 - (usually the last Sunday in June).
David Langridge has organised an Open Meeting in the Mission Hall on Friday 27th October at 7pm.
For those new to the village, David will explain all about the Fayre and how much it raises for local charities. He will also explain all the roles needed and of course be looking for volunteers for the committee roles.
Please come along to learn more and get more involved in the event...........if of course we want to run it again?!

logo24 October 2023 - Neighbourhood Plan

The Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan has reached the stage of formal public consultation, and will commence on Friday 27th October with responses required by Friday 8th December. This "Regulation 14" consultation is done before the Neighbourhood Plan (modified if necessary in the light of the consultation responses) is submitted for Inspection. If approved by the Inspector, the Plan then goes to referendum, when all the people in the Weymouth Town Council area can vote on whether to adopt the Plan.

Copies of the Neighbourhood Plan, along with other relevant documents, are available at https://www.weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan/  If people remember, there is a Sutton Poyntz Neighbourhood Plan. This will be replaced by Weymouth's Neighbourhood Plan, if it is adopted, but it was Weymouth Town Council's intention that the policies in our previous Neighbourhood Plan should be "included and respected" in the new Neighbourhood Plan, and the Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan includes an appendix explaining how this is done. Our Neighbourhood Plan is available at https://suttonpoyntz.org.uk/index.php/our-village/environment/planning?start=2

People should perhaps be made aware that at the Town Council meeting on the 18th October, all three Councillors representing Preston and Sutton Poyntz voted against the Neighbourhood Plan going forward to consultation. We are sure our local Town Councillors would be happy to provide their reasons, if asked.

[Thanks to Colin Marsh for monitoring the evolution of the Plan(s) for us.]

logo14 October 2023 - Shiny, Curry, Magic, Gardening, Christmas

Red and shiny!
Yup - it's the Bookswap and Tourist Infopoint - a.k.a. the Phonebox!  Those unsung heroes have been out getting busy again.  Light fitting mended, cobwebs gone, books tidied, leaflets restocked, and all the paintwork refreshed!  Looking glorious!  Thanks boys and girls!

Curry Night - with Magic
On Saturday 25th November the Sutton Poyntz Society will host a Curry Night - with an extra dish of Magic!  No, it's not a new Bhaji recipe, but a couple of real live professional magicians who will entertain us while we nibble our poppadums.  We're giving you plenty of advance warning because we need to have the catering organised and tickets will only be available until the 17th November.
You can book your places - and order chicken or veg option, and pay (£12) via:

And although Christmas is a looong way off, a couple of dates for your diary:

Village Coffee Morning - Friday 1st December - mince pies, stollen, chocolate logs... - one or more of these might be available - free!

Village Christmas Illuminations - Sunday 3rd December (Advent Sunday) - the village Christmas Tree will be lit.  Another opportunity for a gratis mulled wine and a mince pie!

As always the village website diary can remind you of all these wondrous events - just pop over here!
