25 November 2021 - Mission Hall Committee Members needed; Scout Jumble Sale; SP Coffee Morning
Dear all,
The Sutton Poyntz Mission Hall Trust Management Committee is seeking to appoint a new Treasurer and Secretary. The Committee is responsible for the running and maintenance of the Hall on behalf of St Andrews Church Preston PCC. The Mission Hall is a popular and well used amenity at the heart of the village, and the Committee would welcome new members with an interest in running this important and vital community asset. If you are interested in joining the Committee in either of these roles, please contact Anthea Heathershaw (Chair) on 01305 834375.
Some news about the Scout Jumble Sale that was held in the Scutt Hall a little while ago. I am pleased to be able to report that the sum of nearly £560 was raised which will go towards maintaining the Hall for use by local Scouts and Guides. From memory, this is the largest sum collected to date and thanks are due to those who organised the event, all those who so generously contributed articles for sale and of course those who turned up on the day to purchase those articles.
And from an event past to one in the future. The next Coffee Morning will be on Friday 3 December in, as ever, the Mission Hall. This is your monthly chance to gather for a chat on important matters of the moment over a warming – and that’s needed with the present cold wind – cup of tea or even coffee accompanied by a piece of welcome homemade cake. On this occasion it will be a charity event, with cash donations invited instead of the usual £3 entrance fee which will go to the Weymouth Foodbank. Do drop in and support this worthy cause, always needed but especially at this time of year.
Take care
Chris
20 November 2021 - Dorset Council Residents Survey
Dear everyone,
Below is an email received from Dorset Council concerning a Residents’ Survey that they are conducting for the third successive year.
If you haven’t already done so you might like to complete the survey yourself. If so click where is says, unsurprisingly, “Click here to begin”.
I have done so, and if I can finish it then anybody can, though I did baulk slightly at the somewhat personal questions towards the end.
Good luck.
Chris

19 November 2021 - Charity brunch, coffee and cake at the Springhead
Dear all,
A reminder that tomorrow, Saturday 20 November, Karen will be hosting a charity Coffee, Cake & Brunch event in the Springhead in memory of her dad John. You are invited to join her for brunch or just coffee and a slice of cake in the Springhead any time between late morning and early afternoon. Proceeds will go to support the work of the Fortuneswell Ward at DCH. This is a good chance to have a chat, enjoy the refreshments and help a very good cause all at the same time. Hope to see you there.
Best regards
Chris
12 November 2021 - You can bet it's on........
Dear all,
If you listen closely, you may hear the sound of approaching horses, but be not concerned. It is not a band of American Indians circling the wagon train, because that - the Number 4 bus out of Sutton Poyntz – has not been active for a long time. The horses are actually training for the SP Society Horse Racing Night on Saturday 20 November in the Mission Hall. The race meeting starts at 7.30pm when it is rumoured that you will be issued with a local currency known as Ponds (there are 100 Reeds in 1 Pond) to place on the horse of your choice in a number of races shown on the giant ( or small, depending how easily impressed you are) in-house screen. The person with the most Ponds at the end of the night will be awarded the SPPSoHA* trophy. There are just six tickets left at £10 each which includes a portion of fish and chips from Stracey's. These can be obtained from Sue Smith (phone 07812 267 788 or at Talbothays, Puddledock Lane). SPAM held one of these events some time ago and it was great fun. I did not win on that occasion however I am assured that there will be no race fixing this time to deny a worthy winner the trophy. Contact Sue asap for your tickets.
Best regards

7 November 2021 - Lamb recovered; Coach trip invitation
Hello everyone,
A nice feel good story attached as an early start to Christmas – well, everyone else is doing it – so read and enjoy.
Also the SP Women’s Institute have booked a coach for Wednesday 8 December to visit the Christmas Markets in Exeter, with some shopping in the town also on the agenda. There are still seats available at a cost of £15. You don’t have to be a member of the WI to go along and you will find them a cheerful and friendly group. You can take some family and friends if you like. Contact Val Dawe the Treasurer on 01305 562807 for more details.
Best regards

3 November 2021 - Coffee mornings - Mission Hall and Springhead
Dear all,
This coming Friday 5 November is not just the anniversary of Guy Fawkes enlightened view of how to deal with politicians but more importantly is also the first Friday in the month. This means that it is the date for the November SP Coffee Morning when you are welcomed along to the Mission Hall between 10.30 and noon. On offer are coffee, or for the more refined amongst us, tea, a selection of home-made cakes and all the conversation you can manage. The cost is £3 a head which makes it cheap at half the price. See you there.
On a similar theme Karen from the Springhead tells me that on Saturday 20 November she will be holding what has become her annual charity Coffee, Cake & Brunch event in the Springhead in memory of her dad John. She invites you to join her for brunch or just coffee and a slice of cake in the Springhead, with the proceeds going to the Fortuneswell Ward at DCH. This Ward has figured in many of our lives, so do drop in and support a worthy cause while enjoying refreshments and a chat with the neighbours. Hope to see you there as well at brunchtime, which I take to be any time between late morning and early afternoon.
Best regards

29 October 2021 - Scutt Hall Jumble sale reminder
Dear all,
A reminder about the Scout & Guide Jumble Sale tomorrow, Saturday 30 October at 2pm in the Scutt Hall. This is one of the major fund raising events of the year to help maintain the Hall for the benefit of our local youngsters, so drop in if you can. Helpers also welcome this afternoon and tomorrow. There will be lots of bargains I am sure. With the gloom and doom reports of shortages at Christmas this would be a good place to stock up on presents for your nearest or furthest away but definitely dearest. Go along and have a browse
Best regards

27 October 2021 - A correction to the Race Night Newsbite
Dear all,
If you have tried to book your Race Night tickets by phoning Sue Smith then unfortunately you fell at the first hurdle. The telephone number to use for this purpose is 07813 267 788, not the one given in the Newsbite. In my defence I can only say that one should never blame a lady, even if it’s her fault.
Yours in sackcloth and ashes
Chris
