tonys logo 30 November 2022 - Again: TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE, PLAISTERS LANE
Whatever it was that BT-Openreach did to the telegraph pole last time, it seems they have to come back and fix it again.
I suspect they didn't leave the wires with enough clearance for the reindeer and sleigh expected on 24th December.

The proposal is that Plaisters Lane will be closed on 9 December 2022 between 0930 and 1530.  Details attached.
The permission will remain in force for five days, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed on 9 December 2022.

tonys logo 23 November 2022 - Village Beware!
Many of you will have heard of the theft of a bicycle from near the Scutt Hall on Monday night, the thieves well disguised and using bolt cutters.
Last night a garden shed in Sutton Poyntz was broken into and power tools were taken.
They also tried to break into the garage of the same house.
Take necessary precautions - and report any incidents to the police.

[Followed quickly by this second message!]
I was trying to keep the date, time and location secret so I could eat all the cake.
But my plan has been foiled.
I imagine you can guess where it will be?  Yes, in the Pub.
And when?  Saturday 26th, 10:00am - 1:00pm.
See you there - I'll leave you some crumbs...

Hints:
A final reminder of the Quiz on November 26th at 7.30pm in the Mission Hall. There are just a few tickets remaining so contact Hilary 07707 830846 if you don’t want to miss out. If you don’t have a team, our lovely friendly villagers will welcome you; (some of them need all the help they can get!)
Nibbles provided but bring your own drinks.

We're off to do some revision.  We've read most of the internet but it's quite tiring.
We're just going to print the rest and read it at our leisure...

See you there,

tonys logo 15 November 2022 - Mission Hall Newsletter 2: feedback evening planned
Sutton Poyntz Mission Hall
Newsletter 2

The Mission Hall Committee were blown away by the number and quality of the replies we received in response to our earlier Newsletter and Survey. The Mission Hall is clearly important to you all, so we will shortly be asking the Church for a Lease extension. You have also been thinking carefully and positively about how the Hall can be improved. Thank you all so much. Thank you also to those of you who have said you will be prepared to help us with our work of running the Mission Hall, either on the Committee or with fund-raising. We will hope to find a way of getting people involved in the next few months, starting with a Volunteers’ Meeting in January (perhaps 18th).

These are interesting and worrying times. Early next year our electricity prices will go up by a large multiple, and without taking action we calculate we would have to put the Hall Hire rates up by about 80%. As a result, we are approaching Solar Panel installers to get prices for solar panelling to be fitted on as much of the south-facing roof as possible. Our calculations are that this will allow us to keep the rise in Hall Hire rates to around 25% - still significant but we believe our Hall will still be competitive compared with other halls locally.

Before the Solar Panels are fitted, however, we have contracted a firm to fit acoustic panelling to our ceiling - this should happen early in the New Year. As many of you have pointed out, the Hall’s acoustics are very bad, making communications difficult when there are numbers of people in the Hall. The acoustics are measured in what is called Reverberation Time, and these acoustic panels will reduce the Reverberation Time from around 3 seconds to about 1 second, which is ideal for a Hall of this type.

We are in the very fortunate position, significantly as a result of a recent bequest by a Rev William Kelly, to have money in the bank to pay for these improvements, but further fund raising will be important if we are to tackle other ideas that you have raised. We’re grateful to one villager for asking us to focus on “events that raise funds” rather than ”fund-raising events”, so we will try to make sure that FUN comes before FUNDS in our priorities.

I hope you can see we are already working busily on your behalves, and your responses to the previous Newsletter will give us lots to think about. To take this all forwards, we are planning

A Feedback Evening
at the Mission Hall
on Thursday 8th December
starting 7.30 p.m.
with mulled wine and refreshments

so that we can talk through the results of our Survey, and jointly discuss the way forward. We hope to see as many as possible of you there, so that the energy and enthusiasm you have all shown does not go to waste.

See you there!

tonys logo 14 November 2022 - Millenium Walk hedgerow planting
The Biodiversity group now has a delivery of over a 1000 saplings confirmed for the hedgerow we are planting along the Millennium Walk.  We have already planted 300 hedging plants provided by the Woodland Trust under the Green Canopy scheme.  As we said before this is intended to complement the row of oak trees by planting 14 different indigenous species to provide a colourful and varied hedgerow.  George and Sally intend to keep the  hedge cut to a similar height as the existing stock fence so it will not hide the oaks or block views from the footpath.

We want this to be a community project with an emphasis on the youth so that children from in and around the village can see the results of their efforts as the hedgerow develops. The brownies, cubs and scouts will all be involved as well as the Muntsy's special needs group.

We plan to start at 10am on Saturday 26th November, meeting at the footpath by the Millennium Walk, hopefully we can get the work done in the day, weather permitting.  All are welcome from the village, all you will need is garden gloves and stout shoes/boots to heel the saplings in.  Any additional information can be provided by Dave Emery 832907 or Colin Marsh 833892 as before.
