28 September 2022 - Barn Dance!
Time to strip the Willow?
No, we're not inviting you to prune the trees around the pond, but rather to join in the fun of a Barn Dance in the Preston Village Hall (our Mission Hall is a little too small for the riotous crowd we're expecting!)
For the sum of just £15 you can enjoy a fish and chip supper and learn how to 'promenade', 'honour your partner' and complete a 'figure of eight'.
So get your dancing shoes out, or more likely your plimsolls, or for the younger people your trainers, and be there at 7pm on Saturday October 29th. Music is provided by the Black Sheep Band and there will be a professional caller to keep us all on our toes!
I for one am looking forward to a good 'do-si-do'. (Ed: says S!)
And remember to bring your own bottle(s)!

p.s. Sorry for the onslaught of Newsbites today, just so much happening in this little village...
26 September 2022 - Street Fayre Charity Presentation Evening
A message from the Street Fayre committee:
An enormous amount of money (over £17000) was raised by our exceptional little village through this year's Victorian Street Fayre.
As you know the Weldmar Hospice are the major beneficiary this year, but there are a couple of dozen smaller local charities on the list.
There will be a presentation ceremony on Thursday 6th October at 7pm in the Mission Hall, to give out the cheques to the charities benefiting.
All are welcome!
Most charities will be sending a representative to accept a cheque, to give their thanks, and to say a few words about the work of their charity and how we are helping.
Sometimes the Dorset Echo and other prestigious media organisations* are present.
And if you needed another reason to attend, I’m sure there are refreshments!
J (& S)
* Unfortunately yours truly can't be there as I have to attend a more important celebration (my birthday)...

6 September 2022 - Using the internet to order repeat prescriptions, view test results, book appointments etc
The Preston Road Surgery have found that less than half of their patients manage their health needs on-line.
They're offering lessons on how to make the most of it - see details below and poster attached.
J & S
I thought I’d let you know about a great new service available at Preston Road surgery STARTING MONDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER!Every Monday from 9.30am – 12pm patients can come along to a drop-in service to learn how to access the digital services available at the surgery.Following a patient survey in Weymouth & Portland, we found that a majority of people had access to the internet and used it to stay in touch with loved ones, to do internet shopping and banking but less than half had ever considered managing their health online. We have trained digital volunteers who are able to show people how to access their patient record, order repeat prescriptions, view test results, check their Covid passport, book appointments and fill in an eConsult form amongst others. The service is aimed at people who already use the internet and would like to know how to access health information online. If you or anyone you know would benefit from seeing our digital volunteers just come along to the surgery on a Monday morning with your laptop, tablet, smartphone and some identification (photo ID if possible). Please help us spread the word about the digital volunteers, I’ve attached a poster for information, feel free to share with friends, family, clubs, groups and contacts! If you have any questions please contact meKind RegardsTracey ScorerWorkflow/PPG CoordinatorRoyal Crescent & Preston Road Practice
3 September 2022 - Road closures - not just for Ironman!
You will probably have received a map in your letterbox advising of the road closures for the Ironman on Sunday September 18th. BUT there is also a big "Tour of Britain" cycle race passing nearby next Saturday (10th). If, like me, you saw those yellow road closure signs and assumed it related to Ironman you might have missed this.
The race is going to pass through late on Saturday morning (11-ish to 12-ish) and rolling road closures will be enforced along most of the stage route. This means roads on-and-around the race route will be closed to traffic by Police Escort Vehicles for a brief period (usually around 30 minutes) to allow the race to pass safely. Affected roads include Littlemoor Road, Preston Road, Coombe Valley Road and all through Came to Dorchester.
Maisie is relieved to hear that her Puppy Training class at Kingston Maurwood will still be held!
