logo19 March 2024 - Who made a withdrawal from the (food) bank?

The generosity of Sutton Poyntz villagers is boundless.  The food bank donation box was bulging as usual yesterday morning, but when it was collected at lunchtime it had already been emptied.  Let’s hope the contents went directly to help some struggling family…

If/when we get news we'll keep you informed.

On Wednesday April 10th we have invited our councillors for Weymouth and Dorset (Louie O'Leary and Peter and Joanne Dickenson) to come and talk to us and answer your questions.  You can expect things like local buses, speed limits and pot-holes to be mentioned but If you want to submit your own questions beforehand then simply Reply to this email and we'll collate them.  Of course you are welcome to ask whatever you like on the night - time permitting!

We will have a short break (yes, drinks and nibbles will be forthcoming) and then we'll have the Society AGM.

 biodiversity_logo.jpg 28 February 2024 - Website updates

The Biodiversity Group have recently upgraded their part of the village website.  For those who are interested in natural history, they post monthly newsletters in which John Newbould produces fascinating information on wildlife both in the village and the wider area.  For some time Dave Emery has been compiling a monthly video diary of the wildlife we share the village with, using a remote camera in the woodland to the North of the Water Works.
They also provide background information on wildlife in the village together with information on activities to get involved with, covering conservation work and surveys carried out throughout the year.  Please have a look if you are interested in any aspects of natural history in the village.

logo19 February 2024 - Victorian Street Fayre

In case you hadn't seen it, this is from the Fayre Facebook page, written by Dave Langridge and Paul Caddy:

"I write this post with sadness, I and the 2022 Street Fayre committee have held off as long as possible, but unfortunately we have not been able to get enough people to form a full committee, with several key roles still remaining vacant.

Additionally due to changes in policy, access, health and safety concerns by Wessex Water we are no longer able to utilise the Waterworks area for the Fayre, this is obviously a huge blow to the running of the event.

Therefore, the committee have decided to cancel the 2024 event and have asked the residents locally what their view is on the event and to gauge interest to try again in 2025. This could be the same format, a totally new theme and format or a reduced event to cut down the impact on the manpower required to put the event on and impact on the village itself.

Please use the comments facility on the Facebook page or use Messenger within the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre Facebook page to message the committee.

It is planned to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Street Fayre in the summer of 2024 in some way, all residents and supporters will be welcome to attend.......more details to follow on this page.

Thank you to all who have supported this event in the past we have thoroughly enjoyed putting the event on."
