30 January 2017 - February Coffee Morning
Dear all,
It must be a sign of my increasing age that the monthly Coffee Mornings seem to come around so quickly! The next one is this coming Friday, 3 February, in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. The £2 per person entrance includes either a cup of delicious tea, or if you must, a cup of coffee, plus a slice of mouth watering homemade cake.
There is an added bonus this month as our own Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, Peter Jones will be there, supported by PSCO Clive Joyner, to answer any questions you might have on local security and policing.
Balfey's Baking Street Irregulars will have freshly made homemade bread on sale for you to buy, with any surplus (and they over bake to make sure there is one!) delivered to the Lantern and Soulfood charities in town for consumption by the homeless and hungry of Weymouth.
I will see you there, but don't let that thought put you off.
Friday it is then.
Best regards
Chris
2 January 2017 - Coffee Morning
Happy New Year to everyone,
Don't forget the Coffee Morning this coming Friday 6 January in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. The cost remains at £2 per person, which includes either a cup of tea, or that relative newcomer to the British taste buds, a cup of coffee, plus a slice of delicious homemade cake. I am not sure if Balfey's Baking Street Irregulars will have some of their tasty homemade bread on sale, as they may still be basking in the glory their new found media career. But be certain to be there, because I can say without fear of contradiction that by noon on Friday you will be able to say that it was the best coffee morning of the year.
Best regards
Chris
22 December 2016 - SP Bakers on TV tonight
Dear all,
Chris Balfe has the following exciting news
"In case you want to see it, the BBC filmed Sutton Poyntz Community Bakers making bread and donating bread and cash to the homeless shelters and food Kitchens of Weymouth. It will be aired today on BBC Southwest Spotlight at 6.30pm and on South Today on BBC South also at 6.30pm. I think that on satellite these are channels 962 and 961. If you are interested tune in, or know someone who might be, please pass it on.
More importantly, thanks to you and your support the bakers raised over £1,000 for worthy causes over the last six months which I know you'll agree is just BRILLIANT!! Massive thank you to everyone"
This is marvellous news, so make sure you watch tonight or set your recorder if you are going to be out. Many congratulations to Chris and his dedicated band of bakers.
Regards
Chris
14 December 2016 - Carol Service
Dear All,
Don't forget the Carol Service at the Mission Hall this coming Monday, 19 December, starting at 6.30 pm. This is the ideal way to see in the festive season, singing carols with friends old, and hopefully, some new as well. Then afterwards there are mince pies and mulled wine, or perhaps something less strong for the teetotallers like me(?), in the Hall itself. I'll see you there.
Regards
Chris
28 November 2016 - December Coffee Morning
Dear All,
Don't forget the Coffee Morning this coming Friday 2 December in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. It will be the last one this year so make sure you don't miss it. Be there or be square as we used to say in the days of my youth. The cost is still only £2 per person, which includes a cup of tea, or, if you must, a cup of coffee, and a slice of delicious homemade cake. Balfey's Baking Street Irregulars will again be out in force with some more of their delicious homemade bread on sale. There may also be a presentation of some sort, but such is my memory these days that I've forgotten what it is, if indeed there is one. But if you're not present you'll miss it and you wouldn't want that to happen, would you?
Best regards
Chris

15 November 2016 - Children in Need pop up tea room and cake bakers needed
Dear all,
Two of our ladies have suggested that the community once again demonstrate its 'big heart', by supporting the BBC Children in Need Appeal. They plan a pop up tea and coffee shop in the Mission Hall on Saturday 26th November from 10 am to 4 pm. Homemade cakes and drinks will be available all day, and between 12 pm to 2 pm there will be the added bonus of homemade soup and rolls. On sale throughout - though they are sure to go very quickly- will be artisan bread, cakes and books, plus a grand raffle. If you would like to help in any way, with cake making or assistance on the day, give Hilary (834479) or Maureen (835533) a call. But whatever you do, don't forget to drop in and enjoy good refreshments, good company and all for a good cause.
And on the subject of baking, a feature of the Friday coffee mornings in the Mission Hall (the next on Friday 2 December) have been the delicious cakes on offer. These are baked by volunteers who are on a rota to provide just one cake a year. Peter Riley says that currently he has barely sufficient volunteers to achieve this, so it would be nice if some new names could be added to the list. If you would like to help - remember it's only once a year and the cost of ingredients is covered - then give Peter a call on 834653.

23 October 2016 - It's History!
Dear all,
A reminder that Bill Egerton will be presenting his 'Owners of Sutton Poyntz' talk at 7.30pm this coming Wednesday, 26 October, in the Mission Hall, with free admission, and refreshments after. When first announced Bill promised us some previously unheard additional material, which includes, he now tells me, saucy (my word, not his) details about the Bishop of Exeter's steward's shoes - and if that doesn't arouse your interest, nothing will. Looks like a good turn-out is assured, but there will still be plenty of room for anyone who would like to turn up on the night. So come along and be one of the first to learn of the impact that the steward's shoes had on the life and sole (groan) of the residents of Sutton Poyntz.
Regards
Chris
