2 April 2026 - Researching the War Memorial at St. Andrew's Church
Here's an interesting request from Charlie Owen, one of our village authors:
1 April 2026 - Can't possibly be more reminders can it?
Well yes - and it's not an April Fool. But there is one new event (at the pub) to tell you about so while I'm here I'll list the rest of what's occurring in the near future:
This Friday - Easter Coffee Morning with Hot X buns!
And this Saturday - after a very successful pop-up recently, Bees Bakery are popping up again at The Springhead (see poster attached)
Next Wednesday - Biodiversity update and Society AGM
April 25th - Wud Eye Lye 2Ewe comedy night - some tickets still available

26 March 2026 - WUD EYE LYE 2EWE? Uh?
The reminder about our upcoming comedy evening has elicited a number of enquiries - such as this one, coming from someone who just signs his name as a giant squiggle in crayon:
So if you want to make Sutton Poyntz Groan Again, join us at the Mission Hall for an evening of fun on April 25th at 7pm. (Doors open 6.30pm.) As previously mentioned we'll be running this event as a charity fund-raiser for the Air Ambulance service - it'll be £10 / ticket and that will include a ploughman's-like snack. BYOB as usual.
Tickets from the usual suspects - get 'em before they're gone:

24 March 2026 - Save Our Swifts
The RSPB nationally has an active campaign to reverse the decline in the Swift population caused by loss of nesting sites. These incredible birds are seen each summer in Sutton Poyntz and Tony Dobbs from South Dorset RSPB will give a talk in the Mission Hall on Monday 13th April at 7.30pm to explain the actions we can take locally to do our bit.
There will be an opportunity to get involved by looking out for and reporting Swifts, learning about simple conservation actions you can take, carrying out walkabout surveys and sponsoring the siting of locally-built nest boxes on suitable buildings (possibly yours!) in the village..
The talk is free with voluntary cash donations towards the local project and an opportunity to support this important community initiative in other ways.
Colin, on behalf of the SP Biodiversity Group
24 March 2026 - A shedload of reminders
COFFEE / SOCIAL MORNING
Yes – Friday April 3rd will be Good Friday – but will that stop us from encouraging a get-together in the Mission Hall? Certainly not. We’ll be there – and serving hot-cross buns!

COMEDY EVENT
You'll probably be familiar with the long-running tv quiz show "Would I Lie To You?"
Well, on April 25th at 7pm the Sutton Poyntz Society have invited a trio of comedians to entertain us in the Mission Hall with "an hilarious and educational evening, testing your skills of selection from true or just-silly explanations". Yup, your guess is as good as mine.
We'll be running this event as a charity fund-raiser for the Air Ambulance service - it'll be £10 / ticket and that will include a ploughman's-like snack. BYOB as usual.
SPUDS in TUBS
It's that time of year to stick a seed potato in a tub and see what it turns into by the end of July. ‘Nuff said.
