25 June 2018 - Street Fayre
Dear all,
What a magnificent day!!!
Many congratulations are due to Dave Langridge, his dedicated Village Fayre Committee and everyone who helped to make Sunday so special.
Dave says that he was overwhelmed by the community spirit shown by all those in Sutton Poyntz (and nearby) who pitched in to help. He has received lots of kind words from the many members of the public who attended. They were especially complimentary about the Victorian costumes that so many sported to add to the occasion, the quality of the entertainment/refreshments and the efforts made to keep the children amused. Many of the commercial enterprises were also asking if they would be needed next time, a sure measure of success! Thanks are also due to the Saunders family for the use of their garden, as the new location for the Pimms and Strawberries worked very well, and to Goadsby for all their assistance. At the post-Fayre fish 'n chip supper Dave announced that the gross takings (from which expenses will be deducted) were over £22,000. The major charity beneficiary this year will be the DCH appeal to house the new cancer radiography unit, and of course other local charities will also be supported.
So no apologies for repeating myself.
What a magnificent day.
Regards
Chris
16 June 2018 - Help still needed for the Fayre
Dear all,
For the Fayre, the catering team need more cakes to cut up and sell in the Mission Hall and at the other catering outlets. if you can help by making some - or even just one, for everything helps - could you drop them off at the Mission Hall between 2 and 4 pm. on the Saturday 23 June, the day before the Fayre,.
Donations for all the village stalls are still gratefully accepted, especially paperback books. They should be taken along to the Mission Hall on Monday and Tuesday morning between10 and 11am. They will be gratefully received and passed on to the relevant stall holders.
David Langridge, the Fayre Committee Chairman, thanks you in anticipation for your help, as catering and the village stalls are the major contributors to the money raised for our supported charities. Chief amongst these this year is the DCH Cancer Unit, but many others benefit as well from what will undoubtedly be a great day
Oh yes, and if you can help on the day please contact Jez Cunningham (835811 or 07774 541301) or Dave Martin (836322) to assist the day before to help set up and on Monday 25 June to clear everything away.
See you there.
Regards
Chris
12 June 2018 - Equipment needed for Fayre Stall
Dear all
Your Fayre needs you! Margaret Sykes, who is organising the Designer Clothes Stall , does not have sufficient rails to display all the clothing which has kindly been donated to her Stall. She is happy to collect clothes rails from anyone who may be able to lend her one or two. If you can help, or know of someone who might, give her a call on 832200 (her calls are screened by call minder, so persevere).

8 June 2018 - SP Victorian Fayre 24 June
Dear all
With the Victorian Fayre only two weeks away, Chairman David Langridge says
"Things are coming together nicely. The main charity beneficiary this year will be the DCH Cancer Unit appeal. We all know someone who is suffering with cancer and has to travel to Poole for treatment so a facility in Dorchester will help immensely and benefit so many people, Of course other charities will also be supported e.g. WaterAid, the Mission Hall and lots besides. The more we raise on the day the more we can pass on to deserving causes.
All the committee have done a fantastic organising job. There will be a full fun packed children’s entertainment area; the bands and artistes are all booked and divided between both stages; catering is organised ready to serve, bread will be baked by Balfey’s Silver Street Irregulars to name just a few of the things to enjoy, not to mention the commercial and craft stall pitches which were allocated many weeks ago.
The village stalls are Perfect Presents, Accessories, Paperback Books, Antiques & Bygones, Designer Clothes, Children’s Toys Country Ways, Handmade Crafts & Artwork and Gardening. These still welcome donations which can be taken along to the Mission Hall on Monday and Tuesday mornings between10 and 11am. They will be gratefully received and passed on to the relevant stall holders.
We are also running a raffle this year and Goadsby’s have kindly provided prizes for us but if anyone knows a company that could add to these with a donation, or wants to provide us with a nice bottle of wine or spirits to add to this we would be grateful. I can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Manpower is always a challenge but Jez Cunningham has done a great job. If anyone now feels they can help on the day please contact him (835811 or 07774 541301) and Dave Martin (836322) is always looking for helpers before the day to help set up and on Monday 25 June to help clear everything away.
Finally a special thanks to all the villagers of Sutton Poyntz for embracing this community event every two years. It is hard work, but a lot of people have fun and we raise lots of money for charity at the same time. Please encourage everyone you meet to attend the Fayre, and let's have another great day."
Regards
Chris

30 May 2018 - Chatty Crafty Group & Sutton Poyntz WI
Dear all,
Chatty Craft Group
As always on a Monday morning, the Chatty Craft Group will be meeting in the Mission Hall on 4 June between 10am and noon. If you have a skill you could share, want to see what is on offer, or would just like to have a chat, do drop in. One example of some of the many things going on is the teddy bears that are being knitted for nursing staff to give out to children who have to visit an A&E department. One young lady was seen emerging from the hospital very pleased with her new bear! It costs just £2 a session and that includes refreshments. Remember, every Monday morning at 10am.
Sutton Poyntz Women's Institute
The SP WI will be meeting this coming Wednesday, 6 June in the Mission Hall between 2pm and 4pm. This month's guest speaker, Lyn Kenchington, will be giving a talk on 'Loneliness and isolation'. This thriving and friendly group welcome newcomers - just drop in for an afternoon to see what they are about. There's no obligation to join the WI on a first visit - they will be very pleased to see you.

Chris
28 May 2018 - June Coffee Morning
Dear all,
The third Coffee Morning of the Summer season is this coming Friday 1 June in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. They have been well attended so far but this one might be more of a challenge in a bank holiday week, so if you are still at home lend your support. Get along to the Mission Hall where Maureen and her Merry Maidens will be delighted to see you. Enjoy a hot beverage - just the thing in this clement weather - and a piece of homemade cake for only £2.50. Local charities benefit from the proceeds, so you will be helping good causes while enjoying yourself . See you there.
Regards
Chris
25 May 2018 - The Sutton Poyntz Society and Planning
Dear all,
The Sutton Poyntz Society and Planning
Following a lively debate at the AGM on policies and rules, the May meeting of the SPS Committee discussed how it should evolve to operate within the forthcoming Neighbourhood Plan.
"Conservation” being the original raison d’etre of the Society, Committee members have tried to apply the Society's Planning Policy to planning applications in as fair and objective a way as they possibly can, but over the last few years have come under increasing personal pressure from villagers of all persuasions. It has increasingly appeared to the Committee members that the Society's planning role divides the village rather than brings people together.
As the future Neighbourhood Plan should make case-by-case planning reviews unnecessary, it was proposed that the Committee’s role in reviewing planning applications be de-emphasised.
The Committee voted unanimously that starting with the current May meeting it would not discuss or carry out any planning related activities for a period, presently undefined, possibly up to the emergence of the Neighbourhood Forum Plan. Comments on new applications should only be made by concerned individuals.
The Society had also been a place where residents considering submitting a planning application could come for advice. The Committee felt that the Borough Council is a more appropriate place for advice on planning matters, which can be found at https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/planning
Anyone with a different view on Society activity is free to join the Committee to express that view - which could be especially valuable now that the Committee has only just enough members to carry on its business.
Regards
Chris
