tonys logo9 May 2018 - SP Illustrated talk and walk; Recent Coffee Morning
Jez Cunningham says that "I've just seen a small notice in the Echo (Tuesday's) that there is a Sutton Poyntz illustrated talk and walk tomorrow, Thursday 10 May starting at 1.30pm from the Mission Hall.  No need to register, no charge. Steve Wallis, senior archaeologist at Dorset County Council will talk on the archaeology, and Kim Sankey - Historic Buildings Architect - will talk on the built environment.  It will be followed by a walk around some of the notable parts of the village. Organised by James (Project Manager) and Steph on 01305 228241"
I did see this myself in the Echo last Saturday, but on making enquiries around the village I was given the impression that it was a 'closed' event, but perhaps not?
Anyway, Jez and Jean will be going so you might like to join them..

The Coffee Morning organised by Hilary Davidson, her daughter-in-law and her daughter-in-law's sister was a huge success. Loads of people from far and wide turned out to enjoy the refreshments on offer - I can vouch for the coffee cake! -and to support the three charities, Women v Cancer, which supports breast cancer care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. The total raised to share between these three worthy causes is £800, a magnificent sum. Well done to everyone involved.

 Regards
Chris

tonys logo1 May 2018 - Summer Coffee Morning
Dear all,

The second Coffee Morning of the Summer season is this coming Friday 4 May in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. The chance to meet friends old and new over a cup of tea (or coffee if you must) and a piece of homemade cake all for just £2.50. This is the place to see and be seen, so don't miss it - especially as local charities benefit from the proceeds.

Regards
Chris

tonys logo24 April 2018 - three items of information
Dear all,

There will be a Newsletter winging its way to you shortly, but some advance news of happenings so you can update your diaries.

Firstly, donations to any of the  village stalls for the Street Fayre can now be taken along to the Mission Hall on Monday and Tuesday mornings between 10 and 11am. They will be gratefully received and passed on to the relevant stall holders.

Secondly, on Saturday 5 May between 10am and noon Maureen Bond is organising the annual plant sale at the Scutt Hall. There  will be plants on offer for gardens, pots, baskets and patios as well as some indoor Plants. Refreshments will be available.  Entrance free but donations to Julia's House Children's Hospice would be most appreciated.

Thirdly, that same day, Saturday 5 May, following a sad loss in the family, Hilary Davidson, her daughter-in-law and her daughter-in-law's sister are combining to hold a coffee morning in the Mission Hall. Taking place between 9.30am and noon at a cost of £2.50 for tea or coffee and cake, this will support three very worthwhile charities - Women v Cancer, which supports breast cancer care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. So many lives have been affected by this disease, and this is a great opportunity to help - and enjoy some good conversation and refreshments at the same time. I'll see you there.

Best regards
Chris

tonys logo10 April 2018 - SP Society AGM and revised agenda
Dear All,

A reminder about the Sutton Poyntz Society Annual General Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 11 April at 7.30pm in the Mission Hall.

This is your chance to hear the views of others, make your own known and perhaps volunteer to serve the needs of the village, so please make every effort to attend.

Attached is a revised Agenda, but the first item is still the talk, on proposals for a Dorset & East Devon National Park, by Doug Pigg and Sandra Brown.

See you there

Chris

tonys logo5 April 2018 - Summer Coffee Morning tomorrow
Dear all,

A timely reminder from Maureen that the Summer Coffee mornings start tomorrow, Friday 6 April, in the Mission Hall between 10.30am and noon. For just £3 entrance you will receive tea, or that relatively modern import, coffee, plus a slice of homemade cake or one of Jean's famous cheese scones AND, of course, the chance to meet friends old and new and enjoy catching up on village conversation. Judging by today, perhaps Spring has really started, so let's get out and enjoy it. See you there.

Regards

Chris

tonys logo4 April 2018 - SP Society AGM
Dear All,

It's that time of year again, when the lambs start gambolling in the fields and villagers paddle in the pond, for thoughts to turn the Sutton Poyntz Society Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 11 April at 7.30pm in the Mission Hall.

Volunteers are still needed to join the Committee for the forthcoming year, details as per the recent Newsbite. If you can spare a little time to serve the needs of the village then please come forward.

Attached is the Agenda [N.B. subsequently amended so not attached here], from which you will see that the first item is a talk, on proposals for a Dorset & East Devon National Park, by Doug Pigg and Sandra Brown. Sutton Poyntz is likely to form an integral part of any proposals so this is a good opportunity to find out what the future may hold.

The business portion of the meeting following the talk usually proceeds solemnly but swiftly, and free refreshments will be on offer at the end.

See you there

Chris

tonys logo1 April 2018 - The Sutton Poyntz Committee needs YOU; Scout Jumble sale
Dear all

Sutton Poyntz Committee

The Sutton Poyntz Society was formed to promote the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the village and those who live in it, and has been well served by its elected committee members. However at the Annual General Meeting a number of the present Committee who have served diligently will be hanging up their boots - or pencils, or minutes or whatever figure of speech you would like to apply. At the same time lots of equally diligent residents are working hard on the Neighbourhood Forum. All this means that there are a number of vacancies on the SP Society Committee which may prove more difficult to fill than usual, and some fresh members are needed to step up to the plate (another Newsbite figure of speech). So can you help? The Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month - though pressing reasons for absence are always accepted - in the Mission Hall between 7.30pm and 9pm to discuss matters in furtherance of the objectives of the Society.

These meetings are interesting, informative and have a great bearing on the present and future life of the village. It is, for instance, where the idea of a Neighbourhood Forum first surfaced. Some potential members are afraid that they will be asked to do more than they would wish, but this is not the case. All tasks are voluntary and you can do as much or as little as you like. So to slightly amend the words of the late, great Lord Kitchener, "YOUR VILLAGE NEEDS YOU". If you would like to serve the community in which you live and can spare a small amount of time each month then the Committee is the place for you. if you would like to know more contact Bill Egerton (832872), any committee member (telephone numbers on the Newsletter) or reply to this Newsbite.

Scout Jumble Sale

A reminder that the Weymouth East Scout & Guide Jumble Sale is to be held next Saturday, 7 April at 2pm in the Scutt Hall. Mo and Dave Martin will be grateful for donations of anything they can sell - clothes, bric-a-brac, books etc - to raise funds to maintain the Scutt Hall for the use of our local youngsters. Please contact Mo/Dave on 836322 if you have anything of use. On the other hand you may be looking for a bargain, in which case get along on Saturday for there are sure to be many to delight you.

Regards
Chris
